Welcome to the all new web site of Mátra Wildlife Tours !
Mátra Wildlife Tours was started in 2006 with the idea of providing reasonably-priced nature study holidays in Hungary for English-speaking naturalists. Since then, several guests have enjoyed exploring this species-rich area. Some of our visitors have specialised in butterflies, while others preferred birds, reptiles, or amphibians. Most people have enjoyed observing and photographing the whole range of flora and fauna.
The photographs on these pages give an idea of how special this area of central Europe is, and why it's well worth a visit.

What makes Mátra Wildlife Tours different from other tour companies?
Well, at Matra Wildlife Tours we normally only accommodate one guest at a time or two guests who already know each other. This allows us to customise your holiday to match your own specific interests, rather than it being a compromise between the interests of several strangers. There is no fixed itinerary, and so for each day we can take into account the weather and your preferred distance to walk.

Your guide, Colin Penny, is a naturalist who has lived in this area of Hungary for several years, and he has an excellent knowledge of the best sites for each type of wildlife. In summer months, butterfly enthusiasts can be sure of visiting varied habitats where butterflies are abundant. Butterfly species may include some that are rare or extinct in Britain such as Bath White, Large Copper, Swallowtail and Black Hairstreak, plus many other species that are unknown in Britain.
